About Galit

The Designer

Galit Levi is an international fashion award winner and a top Israeli and international designer who specializes in high fashion and lifestyle clothing. She is also an artist, entrepreneur, and businesswoman and is the founder and namesake of the Galit Levi brand. Levi is the only designer in the world whose dresses have won the title of the most beautiful dress in the world twice - in 1999 at Miss World and in 2019 at Miss International. Additionally, her dresses are believed to bring good luck, and stars who wore her dresses have won first place in competitions worldwide.

Galit Levi is known for her whimsical and show-stopping designs, from fantasy evening gowns and cocktail dresses to tailored wedding gowns and intricately detailed accessories. She has changed the bridal fashion industry worldwide by introducing fashion motifs, sheer fabrics, and corsets for wedding dress designs. Levi invented and developed a corset that shapes the body like the corsets of yesteryear and introduced a special sewing method into wedding and evening dresses, a method that the whole world has tried to emulate and uses today.

Galit Levi is a prolific fashion creator who has extended her influence beyond couture clothing and bridal, realizing her aesthetic designs in underwear, bathing suits, and home fashion. Her first studio was an informal one for evening gowns and bridal dresses, set up on the roof of her parents' house. After failing to find a wedding dress that reflected her design preferences and taste, Galit designed one made from classic lace, pink sparkling studs, and gold wires. The dress was heralded as demonstrating conspicuous quality and unique style. Soon after, requests for further designs for bridal gowns and bespoke dresses began pouring in, prompting Galit to establish her own first ‘proper’ business at the age of 22. Galit Levi Design was founded in Tel Aviv in 1995, and from the outset, continued to focus on bespoke bridal gowns but also created high-fashion evening wear and assorted fashion accessories. Over the years, more than 50,000 brides and their families have walked the aisles wearing stunning designs penned by Galit Levi.

Levi first gained worldwide attention in 1998 when the famous singer Dana International won first place in the Eurovision Song Contest. She decided at the last minute not to wear the dress prepared for her by fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier and wore the dress designed for her by Galit Levi instead, and she won first place in the Diva song.

Made-to-measure from unique fabrics and using delicate handwork and elite couture techniques that match the standards of top Parisian fashion houses, Galit's innovative designs soon began to get noticed. Worldwide recognition followed with the 1999 Miss World Pageant, with Galit winning 1st place (out of 100) in the category of "Most Beautiful Dress in the World" for a dress worn by Miss Israel, Jenny Chervonny. Her exquisitely designed and expertly constructed corsets, which emphasize every woman's body attributes while camouflaging all fewer flattering ones, have propelled her to the top of the fashion industry.

Over the years, beauty queens, actresses, singers, TV hosts, leading career women, and other famous personalities worldwide have repeatedly chosen to walk the red carpet or appear in major events wearing designs by Galit Levi.

Linor Abergil, the first runner-up to Miss World, won the crown while adorned in a stunning white dress designed by Levi. Israeli singer Dana International also won the Eurovision contest wearing a classic tight dress designed by Levi. These are just two of many occasions where Galit Levi's designs have contributed to the success of the wearer.

Consequently, she has received commissions to design outfits for popular TV shows, ceremonies, beauty contests, and films.

Throughout the years, the brand expanded beyond Israel and participated in many fashion shows. Galit's collections landed in boutiques and upscale department stores in Europe and North America, such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols, as she exported to global fashion capitals. She is the only Israeli designer to participate in Fashion Week "Haute Couture" in Rome's "AltaromaAltamoda," alongside powerhouse designers Valentino and Lacroix. Her designs have appeared in the world's best-selling fashion book "Collezioni."

Levi herself made Forbes magazine's list of Young Promising Entrepreneurs and was included in Forbes magazine's promising “40 under 40”, ranking 27th overall and 1st in fashion. She has been named "Designer of the Year" multiple times, and her extravagant designs have participated in competitions and won awards all over the world.

During her career, Levi was selected to be the face of many companies in fashion and lifestyle and appeared in numerous commercials for Israeli and worldwide brands. She was also invited to participate in various TV series as a guest, a judge, and even to play herself in TV shows and movies. In addition, Levi participated in a reality show in Israel.

Over the years, Galit moved from behind the scenes to the center of the stage and became a celebrity and opinion leader in her own right. She has worked on a variety of advertising campaigns and has become the face of many of the biggest fashion brands. Levi signed a contract with H&O, making her the first person to appear in their upcoming fall ads and design the collection. The endorsement sparked criticism from the public, as the glamorous, urban-chic fashionista character branded with Galit Levi was ironic considering that H&O does not promote high-end fashion. However, the ad campaigns were a success, and Levi gave the Gap a new, fresh face that appeared in many commercials, online and print ads, and other promotions.

Galit frequently appeared as a leader in opinion polls and TV programs, where she was interviewed on various topics and invited to be a judge in many competitions and beauty pageants. Levi was selected as the second most popular person after Sarah Jessica Parker that Israelis would want to go shopping with, and was also selected to be on the list of "the most beautiful 50 women in Israel."

Galit is a woman who built her career while also being a mom to her only daughter, raising her almost by herself. That's why she is an example of a strong woman who built a successful company while being a caring mom.
